START

sand, brass powder, cardboard on canvas

If “A SELF PORTRAIT” came about almost by accident, as I tried to salvage a canvas I was otherwise ready to toss out, “START” was a deliberate venture into sand painting, driven by a specific desire to play with shapes and different volumes, creating a play of shadows and depth. I still remember that Sunday, though it feels like eons ago. I recall the blisters that popped up on my hands after cutting cardboard with such fervor, but also the satisfaction of breathing life into a project that I could already consider wrapped up by day’s end, “cooked to perfection” thanks to the warmth of a vibrant summer sun still reflecting in the brass dust.
