“A SELF PORTRAIT” is my first ever sand painting, done way back when. I was painting away and then things went sideways; I decided to scrape off the excess acrylic paint with a box cutter, but I ended up cutting through the support. I didn’t wanna toss the canvas, so I started brainstorming how to salvage it: there was a hole to cover up, needed some extra material, how to fix it? So I started mixing up sand with some other stuff (still secret to this day!) and before long, I was seeing some real magic happening! To celebrate my ingenious save, I decided to do a self-portrait; the brush ’cause my whole life revolves around art; black and white ’cause I got this whole yin-yang thing going on, and red ’cause passion and love, they’re what drives everything I do.
